I’m Marsha, and I started this website to nurture online business owners and provide them with advice and resources. I’ve been a freelancer since the 1990s, so I know what it’s like to run a sole proprietorship. Truth be told, it’s fascinating! There is nothing better than being able to support yourself and still make time for the people and activities you really care about.
I started out teaching English as a second language in Italy, and I also went into translating Italian copy into English. I love to read and write, so this was the perfect job for me, but at a certain point, I had to make a choice. When my children were small, I was faced with either taking a full-time job at an agency (and having to pay a babysitter) or working from home so that I could be there when my kids needed me. I chose to become a freelancer, and it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I got some education along the way to affirm my own professionalism: I have a CELTA for teaching English and an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration.
However, the right mindset is just as important as expertise: we need to “think and act anew” to succeed, so I continue to work on my own mindset and skills to stay current. It’s part of my daily routine, and I intend to devote some space to cultivating the right mindset here on Home Business Haven.
What’s behind the name? A haven is a place of opportunities, protection, and resources. I hope this site can become a place where people learn about freelancing, website building, and affiliate marketing, and I want to help them grow their own businesses.
